This show’s title conflates Shakespeare's Hamlet with his original inspiration: Saxos Amled.
From the outset of collectively driven work leading up to this show, we (IFB) asked: how does the psychology-infused tale of Hamlet re-act upon being re-introduced to the power and plot-driven backdrop of Amled's Jutland.
We then asked if it was possible to investigate the position of the artist (or artist-group), in such a manner that it was able to think of itself in the role of theatre-worker or workers. Less in the sense of actor or stage performer, and more in the sense of a group, working to uphold the theatre as a house. A house of functions and positions – scenographer, prompter, director, etc. – unseen, unheard and unthought of, yet holding the power to change what is seen, what is heard and what is thought.
These — through our patient and collective readings of Shakespeare and Saxo, and conversations about the show—become a place to dream about, spin tall tales about and eventually avoid.
